Vision

Have you ever created a vision board?
I have started compiling some pictures, words and thoughts which eventually will make up my vision board.  The board is basically a collage of items that you hope to have in your life some day with the hope that putting together your vision and then looking at it on a regular basis will help you achieve your short or long term goals.  It can be as simple as cutting out the car you would like to drive, the purse you can’t live without but it can also feature words to live by or pictures of the kind of life you hope to lead.
I like the idea of having a daily reminder about what we are working towards and the endless possibilities.  Once I complete this project I plan to hang it somewhere where I can look at it daily. Perhaps an office space? Or perhaps frame it and hang it in a bathroom?

Can’t you just see me walking along this dock...one day my friends, one day!

Happy Happy Friday!

The sun in shinning and I'm oh so ready for the weekend. Not much planned this weekend, which suits me just fine. We are having dinner with family tomorrow and other than that, I plan on catching up on laundry and spending some quality time at home.

Today I am grateful for...
1) Dave
2) My girlfriends- through thick and thin we have each others backs
3) Good books
4) Sunny walks with Chance
5) Music that takes me back to some of my favorite memories

Have a great weekend everyone!

Yahoo it’s Friday!

Happy Friday my friends! I am thrilled it’s finally the weekend, I am not however thrilled that we are going to get ANOTHER dump load of snow.  Silly weather!
Anyways, I received the following link in an email this week from a very good friend. 101 ways to be happy and I absolutely loved it.  I printed it immediately, and have read it over and over again. I love that it’s so simple and so true.
My favorites from the list:

14) Get enough sleep. Sleeping for 8 hours per night can elevate your mood and better prepare you to greet the day.
35) Smile. It takes fewer muscles to smile than it does to frown.

54) Get a dog. The studies showing the positive effects man’s best friend can have on your psyche are numerous: better emotional and physical health and a wagging tail.

63) Hold a baby. They’re cute and cuddly and without a care in the world—you’ll feel instantly uplifted.

94) Turn off your phone for a day. Let people know in advance that you are taking a personal day and can only be reached in case of emergency. Savor the silence.

What are your favorites?

Have a great weekend!

Spring Fever

Fingers crossed that spring has arrived in Calgary. By the end of the week we are supposed to be in the double digits, and I am pretty excited.  I’m dying to ditch my winter clothes for some fun spring colors.  Is it me, or has this been the longest winter EVER?
Besides warmer days, green grass and patio drinks the other thing that spring signifies in my life is IT’S ALMOST CABIN SEASON (yes, that’s me yelling) and I’m excited.  Almost the minute Christmas is over, I start thinking about relaxing weekends at my happy place.
Happy Tuesday!

Dr. Seuss

I think I’m going to re-read some good old Dr. Seuss- Serious lessons to be learnt from this brilliant author.

"The more that you read, the more things you will know.
The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."

" Be who you are and say what you feel,
because those who mind don't matter,
and those who matter don't mind."

Choosing Happiness

I have been having a bit of a rough time lately, maybe it’s the never ending winter or maybe I’m just in a bit of a funk. Either way I haven’t been feeling great but I’m doing my best to get myself out of this and move forward. Instead of worrying about what is or isn’t, why not be reminded of the things that are good and really do bring me happiness.
SO…I decided to make a list of things that make me happy.
In no particular order happiness is…
1.       Waking up in the middle of the night and realizing you can still sleep for hours.
2.       How excited my Chance is to see me when I get home no matter if it’s been eight hours or five minutes.
3.       Accidently hearing someone say something nice about you.
4.       It’s almost cabin season.
5.       My new Tiffany’s necklace from my mom.
6.       Today is Friday, enough said.

Today I am choosing happiness. What’s your happiness?
Happy Friday!

TGIF!

It’s Friday, yahoo!
It feels like it’s been a long week and like forever since we had a weekend.
Today I started my day by donating to the Alberta’s Children’s Hospital. I’m not telling you this so you know that I’m a miracle maker (that’s how Country 105 refers to people like me, haha!) but for you to take a moment and be grateful that we have this resource in Alberta and perhaps consider donating.  Over the last few days, Country 105 has been on location for their annual radiothon.  It has been heart wrenching and every morning I have to fight back the tears as I listen to the stories.
Although I don’t have children, hopefully one day I will, and hopefully we won’t ever need to visit but chances are someone I love will and therefore I think it’s important to support the hospital.  One day I hope to work or volunteer at the hospital because I believe in it and feel grateful to have this type of hospital in our community, plus I think it would be really fun.
Back to the weekend… tonight we are going to my aunt and uncle’s to have drinks with them and cousins. My sister and mom will be there too! What a perfect festivity to end the week. Plus my uncle makes a darn good Caesar, yummy can’t wait! Tomorrow night is one of my best friend’s engagement parties, which is sure to be great time. Now to find the perfect outfit…
Happy Friday everyone, and if you are in Calgary enjoy the beautiful weather!

25 things...

How do you like the new look of the blog? Its a subtle change, but I like it!
I saw this on another Blog and thought it was a fun idea AND they do this with celebrities in US Weekly. Enjoy!
25 things you may or may not know about me
1.       My favorite TV show is hands down - Modern Family.
2.       I’m extremely close to my family.
3.       My Faj (dad) is in Thailand and I miss him VERY much but I’m extremely proud of him.
4.       My happy place is my cabin and I would rather be there than anywhere (at least in the summer)!
5.       I have a group of girl friends that without their love and support god only knows where I would be.
6.       I never imagined I would have a degree, and last year I officially graduated in my mom’s living room. Dean and all!
7.       I’m learning the value of being a good friend, but not getting overly involved in other peoples sh*t.  Amazing how hard it is for me to separate the two.
8.       I like raw potatoes with salt, most people think it’s weird, I think it’s delicious.
9.       I drink at least 8 glasses of water a day; my husband doesn’t even drink one.
10.   I love to read and read at least a couple of books a month.
11.   Chance is my number one hound, and I don’t know what I would do without him.
12.   I love Slice TV, Millionaire Matchmaker is my favorite.
13.   I have never had a cavity or broken bone.
14.   Drinking and driving is not ok, EVER, I don’t understand why people don’t get it.
15.   I love red wine A LOT.
16.   I also love Caesars A LOT.
17.   I actually feel happier when my house is clean and organized.
18.   I don’t like going to movies, I think it’s a waste of money and they play the movie way too loud.
19.   Dave and I have been together for 10 years this year.
20.   I am a recovered nail biter.
21.   I think/talk about winning the lottery at least weekly.
22.   Elvis and I share a Birthday and he died on my Dad’s birthday.

24.   I love babies and puppies.
25.   I wish I was craftier.

I get it, it’s been awhile!

For a few days I have actually contemplated not writing anymore, I felt unmotivated and like I didn’t have anything important to say. Something has happened to change my mind-the few people that do read my blog have started asked why I stopped? As I went to answer them, I realized I don’t know. Of course I used the same lame excuse, “I’m busy”, which is true but too busy to write? I don’t think so!
So the Blog resumes, and hopefully I won’t let it slide again anytime soon.
Tomorrow marks my three month anniversary with my current job.  I feel like it’s been way longer than three months.  What does this three month mark mean? I get benefits and I have passed my probation period. YAY! I’m still very happy at my new job, love the people, the culture and l my day-to-day role.  I feel pretty lucky to have found this job and to be having these experiences.
Liking your job is really important, working full time is hard enough when you like it, I can’t imagine what it would be like to dread going every day.  I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t last very long in a job that I didn’t like.
Anyways after a long snowy day, a cup and tea and my book are calling my name!
Good night!

Poor Puppy

My sweet little Chance hasn’t been well these last few days. Without going into too much gross detail, and I wouldn’t want to embarrass him, he had an anal glad issue. He was very sad, uncomfortable and it broke my heart. Thankfully we have a great vet that took good care of him, and he is on the road to recovery. However, I’m pretty sure he is now manipulating us. Walking must be uncomfortable because he just sits down and stares.  So, when he is thirsty, he pants and one of us goes running for his water bowl, when he comes in from outside, we dry his paws and then carry him to the couch. Now I realize this is PATHETIC but if we don’t, he just stays at the door and doesn’t move and then everyone is sad. It’s amazing what we do for our animals!
Anyways, bottom line, Chance is running our household and we love him to pieces!

ONEder Fund!

I have said it before, and I will say it again. Kelle Hampton is one wicked person! I have talked about her before, because she is an inspiration, an awesome mom, a wicked role model and who am I kidding, I wish we were friends.  I read her blog daily and every day she continues to inspire me.
These last few days have been no exception.  Her youngest daughter, Nella,  who has Down Syndrome is turning one and in additional to planning what will probably be the best first birthday party EVER, she is also paying it forward.  She is raising money for Down Syndrome, in a fundraising effort called Nella’s ONEder Fund. Check it out and donate if you can. Kelle’s Blog is open and honest and not only is she choosing happiness she is also choosing to make a difference.
My mom is also a huge Kelle Hampton supporter and the other day she said to me “I think Kelle’s Blog came into our lives for a reason.”  I couldn’t agree more.  She makes me want to be a better person.
Happy Tuesday!
